Medicare Services

Medicare is a program provided by the US government for individuals 65 years of age and older and people under 65 who have received checks from Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) for at least 24 months or with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD).

What are the Medicare parts?

You can benefit from the different options Medicare offers, including Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) which are directly offered by the U.S. government, Medicare Advantage (Part C, or MA, offered by private companies) and Medicare prescription drug coverage (Part D).

What you need to know about

Medicare Part A – Hospital Coverage

  • Part A is automatically included when you enroll in Medicare.
  • This part covers hospitalizations, hospice care, and some inpatient skilled nursing care.
  • Getting admitted as an inpatient in the hospital requires a doctor’s order.
  • The hospital must accept Medicare.
To stay, you may need to get approval from the Utilization Review Committee.

Medicare Part B – Medical Coverage

  • Part B is sometimes included automatically. Other times, however, you have to sign up for it separately.
  • It covers medically necessary and preventive services.
  • This part may include doctor visits, lab tests, diagnostic screenings, durable medical equipment, and ambulance services.
  • Also, mental health inpatient, outpatient, and partial hospitalization are included.

Medicare Part C: Medicare Advantage (MA)

  • Medicare Advantage is the private alternative to the government-run Original Medicare.
  • MA includes Parts A and B, and sometimes Part D.
  • Most of these plans offer extra benefits than Parts A and B, for example, Dental and vision coverage.
  • Companies offering MA are approved and follow the rules set by Medicare.

Medicare D: Prescription Coverage

  • Part D is optional and is offered to everyone with Medicare.
The plan covers prescription drugs you need.
  • Each plan may vary in costs and the drugs covered.
  • The list of drugs covered changes from year to year, so you need to check your plan every year during enrollment time.
